We are seeking a Summer 2024 Engineering Co-op to join our Geotechnical Engineering Team in Exton, Pennsylvania! The Co-op would run from May 2024 through September 2024.

The ideal candidate will thrive and learn in a team-oriented workplace, while serving as a vital contributor to the resourceful and collaborative geotechnical team. Located just west of Philadelphia, The Geotechnical Engineering Team in Exton offers a wide range of challenging project work and a great opportunity to learn and develop professionally. Working closely with other disciplines, our projects provide the opportunities to be an integral part of the collaborative Design and Construction of:

    Geotechnical Investigations - borings, test-pits, geologic mapping, geophysical studies, laboratory tests;
  • Foundations - drilled piers, driven piles, minipiles;
  • Trenchless Technologies - horizontal directional drills (HDD's), jack and bores;
  • Geo-environmental Applications - slurry walls, geomembranes, groundwater control;
  • Slope Stability and Excavation Support - stability analyses, retaining walls, tiebacks, soil-nailing, rock-bolting; and
  • Ground Improvement - grouting, rammed aggregate piers, deep dynamic compaction.

All of these elements play a huge role in determining how best to tailor solutions to our Clients' Infrastructure Needs which include:

  • Natural Gas and Electric Transmission and Distribution,
  • Solar and Renewable Power Generation,
  • Site Development and Earthwork,
  • Water Supply, Wastewater and Stormwater Management Systems,
  • Environmental Site Assessment and Remediation, and
  • Roads and Bridges.

Education

We ask that students are pursuing a degree towards Civil Engineering or Geology with an interest/focus in Geotechnics. Coursework in soil mechanics, foundation engineering, slope stability, and geology are a plus.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

The candidate should have the ability to readily learn, apply, and enhance their skills in the fundamentals of the geotechnical engineering including:

  • performing field observation and field measurements such as test pit and test boring inspection,
  • conducting geotechnical laboratory tests in accordance with relevant Standards and procedures,
  • preparing basic geotechnical calculations under the direction of a Geotechnical Engineer,
  • assisting in reviewing/checking calculations prepared by others,
  • learning to use geotechnical analysis software (Geo Studio, gINT, Settle3D, MathCAD),
  • adhering to organizational standards for quality and performance,
  • using Word, Excel, Bluebeam, Outlook, and Teams to effectively communicate with internal and external clients,
  • preparing meeting minutes,
  • working collaboratively with other design disciplines including Site/Civil, Water Resources, Structural, Environmental, and Mechanical/Electrical/Process (MEP),
  • ability to work safely and adhere to the Kleinfelder safety program requirements, and
  • willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
